As these types of stations pump into the distribution system when the pressure in the distribution system, normally fed from the system main, falls, the primary control shall be pressure control. From remote pressure sensing locations, system pressure shall be transmitted by telemetering to the pumping station. If remote pressure sensing (primary control) is lost due to communications failure, the pump station shall operate on local pressure sensing point at the station discharge line which is not dependent on telemetering. In some cases, where the pumps are of different capacities, it may be necessary to use pressure control to start the first pump and then resort to flow control to call in subsequent pumps. (28-ME-DG-02 § 23.3)
