(a) The Radio Room Supervisor will make a tape giving the following information:

(1) Shutdown duration.

(2) Streets involved.

(3) Location of fire hydrant spigot connection. General information should also be included in this tape to indicate that the customer should take containers to carry the water. In addition, water should not be stored in open containers that may present a drowning hazard. The water drawn from the hydrant is safe to drink, and can be used for any other purpose.

(4) Location of bottled water and when available.

(b) Any identified critical water customer will be contacted (when possible) prior to the shutdown. We must also check for two-inch and larger meters, D and F meters and when possible make notification to property owners if they are not on critical water user list. The crew will be given the name and address of any critical customers as well as the large meter customers.

(c) If a shutdown involves 100 or fewer customers, a call will be made to every customer after 10 hours to advise them of the status of the job and a new estimate of service restoration. The customer will be recalled with an update every 10 hours. The dispatcher will also check the Customer Service System for phone number if none are listed in the MMIS System. No calls will be made between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.; if the notification time falls between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the customer is to be called as soon as possible after 6:00 a.m. For customers that WSSC does not have a phone number listing, field personnel will be given addresses to those customers.

(d) If a customer is unable (due to illness, age, handicap, etc.) to go to a fire hydrant spigot connection, a Crew/Supervisor will be advised by the dispatcher and the crew will deliver water to that customer.

(e) If a shutdown involves more than 100 addresses, notification should be made to the Office of Communications so an announcement can be made on the radio, giving the location of fire hydrants with water spigots and the updated information on job completion schedule and water service restoration.

(f) A call will be made to the mayor or city administrator for any shutdown involving 100 or more customers or lasts for 10 hours or more. Information will include extent of shutdown, brief summary of job situation, location of temporary fire hydrant spigot connection(s) and estimated time of water restoration. No calls will be made between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

(g) The county health department must be notified of the extended shutdown duration, if food services are involved. (W 19.0 § III)
