(a) 

(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, the WSSC Commission Engineering Scholarship shall be awarded to two students each calendar year.

(2) One student shall be a resident of Montgomery County and one a resident of Prince George’s County.

(3) If there are no eligible or selected applicants for one or both counties in a given year, the scholarship shall not be awarded.

(b) Each year, before advertising the availability of the WSSC Engineering Scholarship, the Commissioners shall determine the amount of the scholarship award in accordance with WSSC’s approved fiscal year budget.

(c) 

(1) The Corporate Secretary shall organize a committee of a minimum of three WSSC employees to evaluate the scholarship applicants.

(2) The committee shall recommend to the Commissioners one awardee for each county.

(3) The Commissioners shall make the final selection of an awardee for each county.

(d) Eligibility.

(1) 

(i) Except as provided in subsection (d)(1)(ii) of this section, to qualify for the scholarship, applicants shall show:

1. Permanent residency in either Montgomery County or Prince George’s County; and

2. Full-time enrollment in an engineering degree or program at an accredited university or college.

(ii) For applicants that are in their twelfth grade of high school, acceptance into an engineering degree or program by an accredited university or college is required.

(2) Applicants shall submit a complete application by the specified date and method of delivery advertised in the annual scholarship announcement.

(e) Renewal of Scholarship.

(1) Scholarship recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three additional years, for a total of four consecutive years.

(2) To renew the scholarship, scholarship recipients must demonstrate:

(i) Continued permanent residency in their respective county;

(ii) Continued full-time enrollment in an engineering degree or program at an accredited university or college; and

(iii) Semester and cumulative year end grade point average of 2.5 or above.

(3) Scholarship recipients shall contact the Commissioners’ Office to request scholarship renewal.

(f) 

(1) Scholarship recipients shall be eligible for any engineering-related WSSC summer internships.

(2) When reviewing summer internship applications, WSSC shall give scholarship recipients preferential consideration. (Res. 2022-2307)
